This is a fantastic initiative, thank you very much Dick!

Hurray for Tech Day. Thanks Dick!

Dick, if you think it would be of use I have a portable Kendon motorcycle lift that I can offer up for use. It's rated at 1000 lbs. If you think it would be of benefit and you have room let me know and we can make the appropriate arrangements. Jim.

Darn, I can't go anymore. You gentlemen and ladies have fun!
Apr 29, 2021, 2:08 PM
I wish I could make it! We're always out of town for 3-day weekends like this. Have fun wrenching. My /6 has come along way since my first driveway session at Dick's a couple years ago with Professor Parkhouse schooling me on the ways of the wrench and helping get my bike purring for the first time.

Dick, Thanks again for hosting another successful "tech day"!! WELL DONE!!

Did anyone take any photos?? I brought my camera and didn't take a single photo!! :)

@Radar41: Did you get the R75 any where near firing up?
May 31, 2021, 12:13 AM
@Mike Z: We did get the timing and valve clearances set. We attempted a start with it trying to start, but wouldn't start, even though we verified a good spark at the plugs. We concluded the carbs are probably in BAD need of rebuilds. He lives in Colorado Springs, so was going to contact Matt for some help.
May 31, 2021, 12:23 AM
@Radar41: found using a spray bottle with a few puffs into the carb to be useful to verify it can fire and provide encouragement
May 31, 2021, 12:33 AM
@Mike Z: Removing the carbs and doing further investigation was our next step. However, we simply ran out of time. He had to get back to COS and I had to get back to Longmont for a dinner engagement. I do hate to walk away from one NOT running when we were so close! ?
May 31, 2021, 12:38 AM
@Radar41: I posted some photos late Saturday.
May 31, 2021, 12:52 PM
Thanks Dick for putting this event on! Great to see everyone today. Made it back to Alma with only 1 shower on 470. Now my new tires are scrubbed in. Anyone interested in a Tech Day late summer or early fall (before the snow arrives) in Alma?
May 29, 2021, 11:28 PM
@Tim Balough: That would be fun. I'm in.
May 30, 2021, 12:10 AM
@Tim Balough: Glad you made it home safe!! I'll try to make it!
May 30, 2021, 4:42 AM Edited Edited on May 30, 2021, 4:45 AM
@Tim Balough: Sounds good to me
May 30, 2021, 4:06 PM
@Tim Balough: You can count me in - especially since I missed the day at Dick's. If it's early fall, might be a good time to do a full fluid change and get ready for winter.
May 31, 2021, 3:04 AM
@Tim Balough: I’m in.
May 31, 2021, 12:51 PM
Dick, thanks so much for hosting this event. It was great to get together and chat with fellow airhead enthusiasts and return to a semblance of normalcy. Thanks again. Signed, Jim Wilcox and Matthew (my son).
May 30, 2021, 12:00 AM
@jimslash5: See you & Matthew in Red Lodge or at the Rally!! Pizza in Red Lodge!! :)

Dick,

Thank you so much for hosting this Tech Day so we could all get back together again and reconnect. It really lifted my spirits to see all the smiling faces and share getting some dirt under our finger nails.

To all who were able to attend, it was great to chat with you face-to-face once again.

Best.

Thanks Dick! My left turn signal has never been better, and it was great to see you all.
May 30, 2021, 12:43 AM
Rod@Rod S.: Glad you got it working! You had some good help! :) Let me know when you want to tackle that front end. :)

Dick, Thanks for hosting today's Tech Day. Dave (the Honda CBX rider) and I had a great time!

Thanks Dick and everyone else who helped to organize this great event. This one was the first time for me but definitely not the last. I’m so much looking forward to meeting this awesome group again

Very pleasant to see all of the Airheads and share some stories. Thank you Dick for another successful Tech Day. It is certainly nice to see all of the giving people that donated their time and efforts. Hope that we can organize a ride somewhere. Doesn't have to be far. Ride on!
May 30, 2021, 1:59 PM
@Kit Saltsman: I've been thinking about a ride over back roads (through Deckers) to have lunch with "Master Matt". We could come back Tarryall Road to 285. It would be a 200+ mile day. What do you think?

Follow up - this ride will have to wait until we all get back from the MOA Rally in Great Falls, MT!

@Radar41: keep talking, I will if I can.
May 30, 2021, 4:12 PM
@Radar41: Radar, that ride down to have lunch with Matt sounds great. I live right by The Fort Restaurant so Deckers road is right in my backyard. Let me know if you decide to head in that direction. Jim.
Jun 3, 2021, 8:44 PM
@jimslash5: Count me in on the ride. I'm about 1 hour from Pine Junction, so could meet there.
Jun 3, 2021, 9:20 PM
@Radar41: I don't need to bombard your lunch with Professor Parkhouse but I'd be happy to join the ride. I live at Pine Junction and do it regularly - sometimes even to Matt's house which is right at the bottom of the hill. It's fantastic. In fact, I just did it for the CO Springs Distinguished Gentlemen's Ride and saw Matt there too.
Jun 8, 2021, 7:44 PM
@John Gale: GREAT! The more airheads we can get the better!! When we all get back from Great Falls, we can get something together!! I have family over the 4th weekend and week. How about after that?
Jun 9, 2021, 3:46 AM
Like Damir, this was my first and I pray not the last. Thank you for the guidance on carb balancing, I think I can do it next time. @radar41, where's can I find all of your cheat sheets?
May 30, 2021, 4:11 PM
@TroyBonner: Troy, look in the "files" section here. Brook has posted both for download by our group. Suggestion: Start a 3 ring binder with info specific to your machine. Saves looking through multiple manuals for the important stuff you do regularly. You HAVE found Brooks web site right?
May 30, 2021, 4:18 PM Edited Edited on May 30, 2021, 4:21 PM
@Radar41: I have so many Beemer bookmarks it is ridiculous, but yes, I have Brook's in there.
May 31, 2021, 4:05 PM
What an amazing event this was for me as a newbie airhead. All were so welcoming and jumped right in on my non-running /5 to help/teach the steps to lead to trying to start it. Came very close to breathing life into it but ultimately it was clear the carbs needed rebuilding. I learned so much but most importantly gained the confidence to move forward with doing things on my own (with helpful guidance). Thanks for the hospitality, friendly and welcoming tech day and I can’t wait until the next one.
May 31, 2021, 3:56 PM
Raymond, I hated to walk away from your /5! We were so close!! If you were closer to Longmont, we would have her running by now! ? Contact Master Matt there in Colorado Springs. He will help you get it back on the road.
May 31, 2021, 4:00 PM
Headz, This event was such a success!

Should we try for a "Tune your Airhead day"? I could have it here in Longmont, if there is interest! NO technical problems!! Those can be handled differently and individually! Just a tune up day?

What do you think?
May 31, 2021, 4:12 PM
@Radar41: A tune up day would be great. How about including a discussion and demonstration of various carb balancing methods (manometer, shorting, Grok Harmonizer)?
May 31, 2021, 4:20 PM
@Dave Hamilton: We could do that! I'm working on a "box" for use with the shorting method. Several members have a Grok! A comparison/demonstration day would be great!!
May 31, 2021, 4:24 PM
@Radar41: A date in August would work best for me.
Jun 23, 2021, 12:17 AM
I'm glad folks had the chance to get together in person and update our stories, anecdotes, and lies around our Airheads! If anyone missed the sign up and wants their name added to the mailing list just send your email address to me at Chief_Whogas@yahoo.com and I'll add you in. Also, I've added a few photos in the gallery for your perusal. If anyone has suggestions on how we can make the Tech Day better please let me know. Suggestions about what we can do together, like the ride ideas above, are welcome but remember, I am not the Club, YOU are! Pick something that interests you and bring it into reality - a ride, a Tech Day, or even to ask for help with a project or task. YOUR participation is the key to enjoying the wonderful motorcycles we ride in this beautiful State we share with amazing people!

Ride well and stay safe!

Dick
