Grant - So, what's broken? How big of a fix are you contemplating?
Nov 18, 2021, 5:49 AM
@M Cory: no idea what's broken, it started running rough then had a HUGE cloud of white smoke out of the exhaust. It runs with no bad noise but no power. Cracked the case? Holed a piston? Popped the rear main seal?

Starting point is remove the total fairing so we can get a good look, that's the goal of this work session.

Grant, I would first do a compression check. You can pull the heads & jugs without removing the fairing.
Nov 18, 2021, 4:22 PM
@Radar41: I will do a compression test first (if I can find my compression tester); but as oil has been leaking out for a year (somewhere near the back of the engine or front of gearbox) I know it'll need to be pulled apart. Also, planned to do a minor restoration so the fairing needs to come off in any situation.
Nov 18, 2021, 4:30 PM
@Grant Senn: sounds like a rear main seal! Let me know if you need a compression tester, also I have a bore scope if it would be helpful to look in the spark plug hole.
Nov 18, 2021, 4:37 PM
Grant, I plan to attend. Let me know if you need any special tools and I may be able to help. Jim Wilcox.

@jimslash5: Hi Jim, I have the "daisy nut" exhaust wrench, don't think I'll need anything else. Thanks, Grant

Guys, something has come up and I can't attend. :(
Nov 30, 2021, 11:53 PM
@Radar41: that stinks. Do I have to take the windshield off the fairing to get the fairing off the bike?
Dec 1, 2021, 4:22 AM
@Grant Senn: No you do not. I would remove the fuel tank, and lowers. There are two mounting points under the side pockets of the fairing. (Brace goes across under the tank), and two on each side accessible from the headlight "tunnel". If things change, I'll try to come. IF Brook is coming he is VERY familiar with this procedure.

@Radar41: I plan to be there this Saturday Grant.
