Star Party 6/11/22

Hi all,  For the summer months (June, July, and August) we’ll be having star parties for our astronomy meetings.  That means a later start due to our long summer days and that the star parties will be dependent on the weather.   For June, we’re having a star party this Saturday, 6/11/22, from 10:00 to midnight at Lone Pine State Park.  We will email by 4 p.m. to let you know if we're canceling due to weather or if it's a go.   We hope to see you there, and happy summer!   Best regards,   Brian, Jennifer, and Andrew

Astronomy meeting 4/30/22

December Meeting

Hi all,  We are finally able and ready to resume holding astronomy meetings!  We will meet at Lone Pine State Park this Saturday, 12/4/21, from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. We will be talking about radio astronomy. If anyone wants to bring some Christmas cookies to share, we can have a little Christmas party. We’ll provide hot chocolate.   You do not need to call the park to reserve a spot anymore. July 2021 meeting

Hi all,With July 4th this weekend and other scheduling constraints, our July meeting will be on July 17, 2021 at Lone Pine State Park.  It will be a star party--only observing with the telescopes--and not a regular meeting.  It will start around 9:30 as we wait for it to get dark.  This is a weather-dependent event, so we will email you to let you know if it's a go or no-go.

Hi all,Our next meeting will be March 6, 2021, at 6:30 to 8:30, at the Lone Pine State Park visitor center.  We will be talking about the Mars Perserverance rover, among other things.  Please remember that we meet whether or not the weather is clear, although we hope to be able to use the telescopes soon after a long winter!  Please call Lone Pine State Park at 406-755-2706 to reserve a space.  We have 35 places available, so if you are unable to make it, please cancel in case someone else is waiting.

Great Conjunction Star Party

We are holding a star party on Monday, 12-21, at Lone Pine State Park from 4:15-6:00 p.m. to observe a very close conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn that only happens every 20 years.  This one is exceptional because they have not been this close in 800 years.  This event is weather-dependent, but we will hold it with even somewhat cloudy skies.  We will also email on the day of to let you know whether or not it is cancelled.We hope to see you there!

Perseid meteor shower

Join us at Lone Pine State Park on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 from 9:30-midnight to watch the Perseid meteor shower.  It's one of the best meteor showers of the year.  You don't need any equipment other than a reclining chair or something to lie on (picnic blanket, sleeping bag, etc.).  This event is limited to 50 people, so you will need to reserve a spot by calling Lone Pine at 406-755-2706.  We hope to see you there!

Come join us for our November meeting on Saturday, November 2!  We will be discussing Uranus and Neptune.  We will meet at Lone Pine State Park from 6-8 p.m. for a presentation, science experiment, and stargazing if skies permit.  Please remember that we meet regardless of weather conditions.Please carpool if you can because parking is limited.  If you checked out a book from our astronomy library, please return it.
